A Bible Synopsis - Old and New Testaments

Old Testament Introduction

In June 1994 I returned from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. I had learned much but longed to learn more. Most of all I wanted to know the dates when things happened. So I started collecting dates (e.g. Abram circa 1900). In researching the dates I saw the wealth of spiritual reading which the Old Testament of the Bible contains and which I had never previously attempted to read. This led me straight on to preparing this Synopsis. Whilst the work was only intended for myself, I am more than happy to share it, and hope that others might benefit from it. Note:- Biblical names differ depending on which Bible is being used. This work keeps faith with the spelling in the particular Bible being used for that section of the work. For example ‘Nebuchadnezzar’ also appears as ‘Nabuchodonsor’. If any names require clarification please refer to your Bible.

New Testament Introduction

After the work I did on the Old Testament in 1995 several people asked me if I intended to continue with the New Testament. My answer was an emphatic “No”! Why have I changed my mind? At the moment, I honestly don’t know. Is it perhaps because, after all the hours  of sitting at my computer working on the Old Testament, I now feel bereft of something to do? Or, dare I suggest, that it may be the Holy Spirit encouraging me to continue from the Old to the New?  As with the Old Testament, this work is primarily done for my own education and interest but I am happy to share it. What I have to realize is that whilst my work on the Old Testament was a Synopsis, the New Testament is more likely to be a Commentary or Analysis especially in respect of the four Gospels.
